Transplanting Seedlings

Seedlings are young plants grown to be moved into a planting space. They are delicate. Any shock will set back their growth. When planting them in your Tiny Field, they key is to make them as comfortable as possible. Be sure the nights aren’t too cold. Cool season crops, like cabbages, can tolerate night time temperatures of 45 degrees. Warm season, like basil, prefer nothing lower than 55 degrees.

Start by watering your seedlings well a few hours before planting. Dig a hole larger than your seedling’s root system. Gently loosen the plant from the package being careful not to pull upward from the stem. Place the seedling into the hole with the level of the soil the same as the soil in the pot. Fill in around the plant. Gently pat the soil around the base. Water very well daily for a week. After one week, water 1 inch of water every week.
